The Screaming Tunnel is a limestone passage located in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Originally built for a railway that was never completed, the tunnel later served as a drainage route for nearby farmlands. Farmers utilized it to move goods and animals beneath the busy railway above.
Constructed in the 19th century, this tunnel measures 16 feet high and spans 125 feet in length. A popular hiking route, the Bruce Trail, runs through it.
Local legend claims the tunnel is haunted by the spirit of a young woman. According to the story, her clothing caught fire, and she perished while attempting to find help. Disturbingly, her screams are said to fill the tunnel, a haunting reminder of her tragic fate.
The tunnel also gained notoriety as a filming location for David Cronenberg's adaptation of Stephen King's horror novel, The Dead Zone.
The mix of history and haunting legend gives the Screaming Tunnel a place of eerie significance in local folklore.
